How God Uses Difficult Seasons to Grow Your Faith

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. We all face challenging seasons—moments when everything seems uncertain, painful, or overwhelming. Yet, it’s often in these very times that our faith experiences the most profound growth. If you’ve ever wondered how God uses hardship to deepen your spiritual journey, you’re not alone. Let’s explore how difficult seasons serve as fertile ground for faith to flourish.

First, it helps to recognize that faith is not just about believing when life is easy. True faith is tested and strengthened through trials. Just as gold is refined by fire, our faith is purified and made resilient when we face challenges. These seasons push us beyond our comfort zones, forcing us to rely not on our own strength, but on God’s.

In Matthew chapter 8 verses 23-27 we read about the disciples being with Jesus in a boat on a lake. Suddenly a furious storm arose, and the disciples were afraid, but Jesus was asleep. They woke Jesus up and terrified they said, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He rebuked the wind and the waves, and it was calm again.

The disciples were amazed. Likewise, when we face sudden storms, it is an opportunity to trust that God is in our boat with us. The trial is testing and developing our faith. When we cry out to Him, he will either calm the storm or give us strength to endure the storm, but we can rest in the knowledge that we are not alone during difficult times.

In difficult times, we often turn to prayer and scripture more earnestly. This intentional seeking deepens our relationship with God, building trust and dependence. It’s in the quiet moments of struggle that we learn to hear His voice more clearly. The doubts and fears that arise invite us to wrestle honestly with God, leading to a more authentic and mature faith.

Notice that Jesus was in the boat with the disciples the entire time, but it was only when the disciples cried out to the Lord that He rebuked the storm. Sometimes a simple, “Help me, Lord!” prayer is all we need to say to get God’s attention. Remember fear looks at the storm, but faith looks at Jesus.

Moreover, hardships cultivate humility and patience. They remind us that we don’t have all the answers and that life is ultimately in God’s hands. This surrender is a powerful spiritual discipline. When we accept our limitations and God’s sovereignty, faith shifts from being a vague hope to a confident assurance.

Another beautiful aspect of difficult seasons is the growth of empathy and compassion. Experiencing pain firsthand opens our hearts to the struggles of others. This not only enriches our faith but also inspires us to be a source of encouragement and support within our communities.

So, how can you embrace these seasons rather than resist them?

Start by acknowledging that growth is happening beneath the surface, even when it’s hard to see.

  • Keep seeking God daily
  • Be patient with yourself
  • Lean on a supportive faith community

Remember, every difficult season is temporary, but the faith built through it can last a lifetime.

Next time you find yourself in a tough spot, try to view it as a divine opportunity—a chance for your faith to deepen and your spirit to grow stronger. Trust that God is working in the background, shaping you into the person you’re meant to become. Thanks for joining me in this reflection. Keep walking forward with hope and courage.

What the Bible Says About Who You Really Are: Your Identity in Christ

Our identity is our sense of self. It is shaped by many factors such as our upbringing, experiences, relationships and culture. According to the Bible, your identity is not determined by your past, your circumstances, your failures, or the opinions of other people. If you have placed your faith in Christ, Scripture teaches that you are loved, forgiven, chosen, created with purpose, and made new through Him.   If you are struggling with defining who you are as a believer, there’s an unshakable foundation you can build on—your identity in Christ. This week let’s explore how two powerful Bible verses, 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Jeremiah 1:5, illuminate this journey of self-discovery and spiritual transformation.  What Does the Bible Say About Who You Are?  The Bible tells us that our identity is ultimately found in God, not in the labels the world places on us or the painful experiences we have endured. When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we become a new creation....

From Puppy Love to Deep Faith: Growing a Stronger Relationship With Jesus

Have you ever been in love? Most people probably would have answered “yes” without hesitation a decade ago. Yet in today's world, genuine connection can sometimes feel harder to find. Relationships require time, vulnerability, commitment, and a willingness to move beyond the surface. The first stage of many relationships is what we often call “puppy love.” We usually associate puppy love with tweens and teenagers, but infatuation can happen at any age. It is that exciting stage when everything feels new. You are captivated by the person, excited about the possibilities, and perhaps even imagining a future together before you truly know them. But what happens when we experience that same kind of excitement in our relationship with Jesus? Can we fall in love with the idea of Jesus without developing a deep relationship with Him? That question made me reflect on my own relationship with Christ and how my faith has grown over the years. I realized that there is a difference between b...

7 Biblical Ways to Keep Going When Life Is Difficult

Life can throw some pretty tough challenges our way, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or ready to give up. Unemployment in certain areas is rising. The number of people unhoused continues to increase and it seems like inflation is impacting every socioeconomic group. But the Bible offers timeless wisdom and encouragement to help us keep moving forward, even when the road gets rocky. If you’re searching for strength, hope, and practical ways to persevere during difficult times, these seven biblical principles can guide and uplift you. Let’s explore these powerful ways to keep going when life feels heavy.  1. Trust in God’s Promises One of the most comforting truths in the Bible is that God is faithful and His promises never fail. When life is uncertain, holding onto verses like Isaiah 41:10 (“Do not fear, for I am with you...”) reminds us we are never alone. Trusting in His Word means believing God will provide strength and peace even when we can’t see the outcome. Matthew ...
