How Prayer Changes Your Relationship With God

When something amazing or funny or interesting happens in our lives there is normally someone who comes to mind that we want to share it with. When difficult times come there is normally someone we lean on for support. Simply thinking about that person brings a level of peace to us because we know they will provide a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on if necessary. Prayer is often described as a conversation with God, but its impact goes far beyond simple words spoken in quiet moments. Many people think of prayer as a last resort reserved for difficult times. But prayer is a powerful practice that shapes, deepens, and transforms our relationship with God in ways we might not always expect.  Whether you’ve just begun exploring prayer or have made it a daily habit, understanding how it changes your connection with God can bring fresh meaning and encouragement to your spiritual journey. The Heartbeat of Connection In Matthew chapter 6 the disciples ask Jesus to teach them h...

Who Am I in Christ? 7 Biblical Truths About Your Identity

Who am I? It’s a simple question, yet the answer can be surprisingly difficult to find. From childhood, our identity is often shaped by the people closest to us—especially our parents and family relationships. The way we were loved, encouraged, corrected, or even neglected can influence how we see ourselves and how we relate to others as adults.  When those early relationships are healthy, they can help us develop a strong sense of worth and security. But when they are unhealthy, their impact can leave us questioning our value, our purpose, and even who we really are. The good news is that your identity does not have to be defined by your past. If you belong to Christ, your truest identity is found in Him. Understanding who you are in Christ is one of the most important discoveries a believer can make. It changes the way you see yourself, the way you relate to God, and the way you navigate life. The Bible reveals powerful truths about who you are as a follower of Jesus—truth...

How to See Yourself the Way God Sees You

It’s easy to get caught up in how the world views us—through the lens of flaws, failures, and fleeting moments of doubt. But what if there was a way to shift that perspective? To see yourself not as others might label you, nor as your inner critic may suggest, but as God sees you? This week, let’s explore how to embrace that transformative way of seeing yourself, rooted in grace, love, and truth. Seeing yourself through God’s eyes is not just about feeling better; it’s about grounding your identity in something eternal and unshakeable. Here’s how you can begin this journey. 1. Remember You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made The Bible reminds us in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” This means your worth isn’t defined by achievements or appearance but by the very fact that you are crafted by a loving Creator. Take time to reflect on this truth daily.  When self-doubt creeps in, remind yourself that you are intentionally designed and deep...

What to Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

We all face moments in life when giving up feels like the easiest option. A loved one faces a terminal diagnosis, unexpected lay-offs, challenges with finding stable housing or transportation are real issues that need tangible immediate solutions.  When challenges pile up, hope seems distant, and the weight of discouragement presses hard. But in these moments, leaning on scripture and strengthening your prayer life can offer profound comfort and guidance. Let’s explore how faith can inspire resilience when you feel like quitting.   Remember God’s Strength in Your Weakness  The Bible reminds us in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. When you feel drained, it’s not a sign of failure but an opportunity to rely more deeply on God’s strength.  Instead of pushing through alone, making decisions based on your own understanding and ability, embrace your vulnerabilities and invite God’s power to carry you. Find scriptures that speak to your c...

But in those tough moments, turning to scripture can offer a wellspring of comfort, encouragement, and hope. Whether you’re navigating loss, stress, or just feeling overwhelmed, these seven powerful Bible verses remind us that we’re never alone and that brighter days are ahead. Let’s explore these scriptures together and see how they can speak directly to your heart during difficult times. 1. Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” This verse is a tender reminder that God is nearest when we feel most broken. It acknowledges the pain but assures us that God’s presence is a refuge and rescue for our weary souls. 2. Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Fear and dismay are common companions...

How God Uses Difficult Seasons to Grow Your Faith

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. We all face challenging seasons—moments when everything seems uncertain, painful, or overwhelming. Yet, it’s often in these very times that our faith experiences the most profound growth. If you’ve ever wondered how God uses hardship to deepen your spiritual journey, you’re not alone. Let’s explore how difficult seasons serve as fertile ground for faith to flourish. First, it helps to recognize that faith is not just about believing when life is easy. True faith is tested and strengthened through trials. Just as gold is refined by fire, our faith is purified and made resilient when we face challenges. These seasons push us beyond our comfort zones, forcing us to rely not on our own strength, but on God’s.  In Matthew chapter 8 verses 23-27 we read about the disciples being with Jesus in a boat on a lake. Suddenly a furious storm arose, and the disciples were afraid, but Jesus was asleep. They woke Jesus up and terrified they said, “Lord, save us! ...

7 Biblical Ways to Keep Going When Life Is Difficult

Life can throw some pretty tough challenges our way, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or ready to give up. Unemployment in certain areas is rising. The number of people unhoused continues to increase and it seems like inflation is impacting every socioeconomic group. But the Bible offers timeless wisdom and encouragement to help us keep moving forward, even when the road gets rocky. If you’re searching for strength, hope, and practical ways to persevere during difficult times, these seven biblical principles can guide and uplift you. Let’s explore these powerful ways to keep going when life feels heavy.  1. Trust in God’s Promises One of the most comforting truths in the Bible is that God is faithful and His promises never fail. When life is uncertain, holding onto verses like Isaiah 41:10 (“Do not fear, for I am with you...”) reminds us we are never alone. Trusting in His Word means believing God will provide strength and peace even when we can’t see the outcome. Matthew ...

The Power of Forgiveness

Has the Lord ever told you to forgive someone who hurt you deeply? Maybe this person asked you for forgiveness, but the hurt was so severe that you found it difficult to move past what they did. Or maybe this person never admitted to harming you, instead pretending that it was all your fault.  Either way Jesus clearly told us to “bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” ( Matthew 5:44 ). Offering forgiveness is not always easy, but it carries the power to heal wounds and restore hope. When it is done sincerely it can transform lives, relationships, and communities.  This week let’s explore the power of forgiveness by examining the deeply impactful New Testament book of Philemon. Why is this story so powerful? Philemon is a personal letter written by the Apostle Paul to a man named Philemon. At its heart is a story about a runaway slave named Onesimus, who had wronged Philemon but then became a...

Sowing and Reaping: A Timeless Truth

The other day I visited the local farmer’s market. As I looked around at the different stands, I noticed that many farmers had a similar selection of vegetables to offer but one farmer’s stand stood out from the rest. He didn’t have a lot of variety like his competitors, but his wares were huge.  Bell peppers the size of two fists and watermelons that needed to be wheeled out rather than carried. It reminded me of the principle of sowing and reaping. This farmer apparently had sown good seed, and he was reaping the benefits of having the largest produce at the market.   The biblical concept of sowing and reaping offers deep insight into how our actions, attitudes, and choices shape our lives and destinies. This week, let’s explore this powerful principle through the lens of Scripture, particularly focusing on Hosea 10:12 and Galatians 6:7-8. Cause and Effect At its core, sowing and reaping is about cause and effect — what we put out into the world eventually comes ...

Clothed Anew: God's Promise of Hope and Renewal

Recently I went shopping and after trying on several different pieces I noticed there’s something deeply satisfying and refreshing about the act of putting on new clothes. In the Bible, it often represents a fresh start, a new identity, or a transformation. New garments can also convey renewal and redemption, as referenced in Zechariah 3:3-5. This passage reminds us of a powerful truth, inviting us to consider what it means to be clothed anew in life. In Zechariah 3, we meet Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, dressed in filthy garments. These garments symbolize sin and shame, and the Lord commands that these clothes be removed and replaced with clean, rich robes. Similarly in our lives, the Lord commands us to repent from our sinful ways and put on His new garments of righteous living.  Zechariah 3: 3-5 reads: “Now Joshua was dressed with filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. He replied to those who were standing before him, ‘Take off his fi...

Waiting on God's Promises During Difficulties: Embracing Hope, Patience, and Faithfulness

Life’s challenges often test our spirit and resolve. During difficult seasons, waiting on God's promises can feel exhausting and uncertain. Yet, the Apostle Paul's words in Romans 12:12 offer profound guidance: "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."  In a season of waiting it can be difficult to maintain our joy but it's the joy of the Lord that is our strength. So let’s take a moment to look at each instruction to clothe ourselves with strength and anchor ourselves in the word of God.  Joyful in Hope Hope is the anchor for our soul, especially when circumstances seem bleak. Being joyful in hope means trusting that God’s promises are true and that His timing is perfect. It is a future focused heart posture.  Even when we don’t see immediate answers, hope fuels our joy because it is rooted in the certainty of God’s faithfulness. The joy in hope empowers us to look beyond present difficulties toward the glorious future God has prepared. Pati...

What the Bible Says About Who You Really Are: Your Identity in Christ

Our identity is our sense of self. It is shaped by many factors such as our upbringing, experiences, relationships and culture. According to the Bible, your identity is not determined by your past, your circumstances, your failures, or the opinions of other people. If you have placed your faith in Christ, Scripture teaches that you are loved, forgiven, chosen, created with purpose, and made new through Him.   If you are struggling with defining who you are as a believer, there’s an unshakable foundation you can build on—your identity in Christ. This week let’s explore how two powerful Bible verses, 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Jeremiah 1:5, illuminate this journey of self-discovery and spiritual transformation.  What Does the Bible Say About Who You Are?  The Bible tells us that our identity is ultimately found in God, not in the labels the world places on us or the painful experiences we have endured.
